Startup Profile
brAIniacs

Introduce yourselves

Tell us in three sentences who you are! How long has brAIniacs been around?

brAIniacs is an AI startup founded in 2023 in Frankfurt that supports small and medium-sized businesses with AI implementation as well as the digitization and automation of their business processes. As a spin-off of Goethe University Frankfurt, we combine cutting-edge research with practical AI solutions that can be implemented without extensive technical prior knowledge. Our focus is on developing customized AI applications and guiding companies from strategy through to successful implementation.

What challenge does your startup address and how did the idea for it come about?

The idea arose from our research at Goethe University Frankfurt. Many companies wanted to immediately apply the latest research findings to their business practices, while academic research itself rarely supports implementation within companies. The biggest challenge was to facilitate the transfer of cutting-edge AI research into economically viable, understandable, and practical solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises.

How does brAIniacs work, and how does AI support this project?

brAIniacs works with companies to analyze existing processes, identify opportunities for automation and AI, and then develop customized solutions. In doing so, we combine modern AI methods with software we’ve developed in-house and the latest research findings. AI is not only the tool behind our solutions, but also the foundation for making knowledge accessible, streamlining processes, and supporting data-driven decisions.

You’re a diverse team. How have your different areas of expertise and experiences contributed to the development of your solutions?

Our team brings together experts in the fields of artificial intelligence, business informatics, engineering, computer science, and business administration. By closely integrating scientific research with practical project experience, we develop solutions that are both technologically innovative and economically sound. These diverse perspectives help us understand both technical challenges and our clients’ specific requirements, and implement solutions that are precisely tailored to their needs.

Are there any specific challenges or observations related to small and medium-sized businesses that you’d like to address with your startup?

Many SMEs lack both in-house AI expertise and sufficient human resources to implement AI projects on their own. At the same time, we often see a discrepancy between overly high expectations of AI and a general skepticism toward new technologies. Our goal is to support companies on their path to digital transformation with realistic, economically viable, and easy-to-implement AI applications.

What is your most important goal for this year? And where do you see your startup in 5 years?

Our primary goal is to successfully implement and continuously develop our AI product for knowledge management and maintenance in manufacturing SMEs, in collaboration with other customers. Over the next five years, we aim to establish ourselves as a leading partner for practical AI solutions in the SME sector, further expand our product portfolio, and sustainably grow our team.

AI Startup Rising supported us above all with informative yet practical workshops and through invaluable mentoring, during which our business model was critically examined and further developed collaboratively. Access to the regional startup community was also particularly helpful, as it enabled us to exchange ideas with other founders and experts. These insights helped us further refine our business model and grow as a startup.
